Senior Mission Trip To Nicaragua 2010
By Marissa Lyons
10 high school seniors and 3 sponsors returned home on June 26 from Nicaragua with some souvenirs, numerous bug bites and a new found meaning of the word, “passion.” After one week of hiking up mountains, taking bucket showers and completely butchering the spanish From the moment we arrived we could feel the hospitality and love that the Nicaraguans gave us. “It was really amazing to see these people we didn’t even know treat us like family.” Abby Fuller said. |
Whether hiking up mountains, or walking for miles in the city, the Nicaraguans were always by our side, encouraging us to keep going. Not only were we amazed by their generosity, we were astounded by their dedication of spreading God’s word. They are so passionate for salvation and we all vowed to bring as much of that home to America as we could. When we weren’t out spreading the Word, we were at the campsite resting and just hanging out. We learned a lot about each other at that campsite. Not only were relationships formed with the Nicaraguans, we as a group became a family. However, our experiences in Nicaragua hadn’t ended. “I must say, the airports were pretty crazy. We were either trying to move a group of 13 to the front of the line, or trying to get 3 sick people on an airplane!” Caleb Stogner said. When it came time for us to say good bye, we all circled up and prayed. We will never forget how beautiful the sound was of 40 different people praying in all different languages at the same time. At that moment, we were not Americans and Nicaraguans, we were brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank you to every single person who made this trip possible. We will never forget it! |
